Sri Lankan E-Learning and Worker Schooling with Human Resource Development (HRD)Tools.

Sri Lanka's E-Learning and Worker Schooling with Human Resource  Development Tools.

The rapid digital transformation and globalisation have redefined how education and workforce development are approached, with Sri Lanka as a still-developing country being no exception. E-learning and worker schooling(E-learning is a mode of learning that takes place electronically, often via the Internet, worker Schooling is a type of adult education that helps workers develop their skills, knowledge, and capabilities) have become very important in equipping Sri Lanka’s workforce with the skills and knowledge required for the new era. In particular, Human Resource Development (HRD) tools are pivotal in facilitating this shift, aligning workers' educational needs with industry requirements. This blog explores how e-learning and HRD tools are shaping worker schooling in Sri Lanka, driving national growth and economic resilience.

The Rise of E-Learning in Sri Lanka

The COVID-19 pandemic triggered an acceleration in the adoption of e-learning across the globe, and Sri Lanka was no different. Schools, universities, and workplaces swiftly transitioned to online platforms. E-learning offers flexible, cost-effective, scalable learning solutions catering to a geographically diverse workforce. It also provides opportunities for lifelong learning, where individuals can upgrade their skills to meet the changing demands of the market.

Sri Lankan government and private sector have invested in platforms.

LearnTV -  one of the  Web-based e-learning platforms.

Furthermore, institutions such as the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) (https://ou.ac.lk/ )offer extensive online learning programs to help individuals improve their skill sets without needing to leave their jobs or homes (Perera & Gunawardena, 2021).

Worker Schooling for the New Era

Worker schooling refers to the continuous education and upskilling of the workforce to meet modern challenges. In Sri Lanka, this has become critical as the country seeks to transition from an agrarian economy (an economy that is based on agriculture and cultivation) to one that is more service- and technology-based. (https://www.hayleysagriculture.com/education/)  The need for technologically adept employees is rising in the ICT, healthcare, and engineering industries.

Human Resource Development (HRD) tools play a central role in this. Organisations are leveraging Learning Management Systems (LMS), which are software tool that allows you to create, deliver, and report on training courses and programs. Example,[https://oulms.ou.ac.lk/] ,[https://learn.esoft.lk/icms/ui/#/login/student]. webinars (A seminar conducted on the Internet), virtual classrooms( an e-learning environment that allows communication, interaction, collaboration, and explaining ideas for Teachers and Students), and digital certifications( to promote a learning culture within their organisations. HRD tools help track employee progress, create personalised learning pathways, and offer analytics to help companies make informed decisions about training needs (Silva, 2020).

Human Resource Development (HRD) Tools in E-Learning

HRD tools offer several key advantages in integrating e-learning into workforce development:

  1. Personalisation: HRD tools allow organisations to customise learning content to align with individual workers' career goals, enhancing engagement and outcomes (Rajapaksha, 2022).
  2. Assessment and Feedback: E-learning platforms provide real-time feedback on the learner’s progress, offering insights into skill gaps that need addressing.
  3. Gamification: Many HRD tools incorporate Gamified elements to keep employees motivated. For instance, earning badges, points or certificates for course completion fosters a sense of accomplishment.
  4. Data-Driven Insights: HRD tools provide data on employee progress, completion rates, and areas where further intervention is needed, allowing organisations to optimise learning strategies.

Conclusion

E-learning, combined with effective HRD tools, is transforming worker schooling in Sri Lanka. This shift ensures that the workforce remains agile, skilled, and ready to meet the demands of an increasingly digital world. By integrating these technologies, Sri Lanka is well-positioned to create a knowledge-based economy, fostering growth and development.
